On December 18, 2016, the Zafraan Ensemble and the soprano Dénise Beck will show a four-hour concert installation in the Uferhallen studio from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., which was developed together with the composers Antoine Daurat and Evan Gardner.
In “The Buzzing” the protagonists examine the body’s ability to act and question its meaning. The resulting internal conflicts create an energy that causes their bodies to move, act, speak and make music, but does not create wholeness.
As the only means of maintaining their identity, the protagonists only have ambiguous and mechanical compulsions, which develop in the form of a feedback loop. As the protagonist of the evening, the singer increasingly externalizes her inner conflict and turns the entire theatrical space into a venue for her identity negotiations. A dangerous game emerges between actions and instrumental music-making, which only meets its limits in the finitude of the material world.
You can enter and exit the four-hour installation “The Buzzing” at any time. Drinks and snacks are offered.
