On June 10, 2016, the Zafraan Ensemble will present “a musical exhibition space” in the Lorenzkirche in Nuremberg, in which an installation by Chiharu Shiota with new music by Stefan Goldmann and Samir Odeh-Tamimi can be experienced.
»alif« is a concert experiment that transfers the principles of the exhibition practice of visual art and performance to the musical form of the concert: a musical exhibition space. A spatial installation by the Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota creates a pulsating organism in which musicians and the audience can move freely. Based on an idea by artistic director Jeremias Schwarzer, the composers Stefan Goldmann and Samir Odeh-Tamimi develop a four-hour acoustic experience that is characterized by the tension between different aggregate states of perception, between continuum and scandal, between techno, Arabic musical practice and Western avant-garde inward and outward directed attention. The Zafraan Ensemble and the singer-performer Salome Kammer create the performance lasting several hours between these poles of perception. Stefan Goldmann controls the electronics, while concert designer Folkert Uhde directs the visuals and live camera.
