An inspiring voice of our time

Always carried by an immediate closeness to her audience, Iris ter Schiphorst combines political awareness with poetic power, sensual sound and formal radicalism. After training as a classical pianist, she left the traditional path early on, played electric bass in punk, new wave and funk bands, and found her way to contemporary music through her own lyrics and influences from Dieter Schnebel, Luigi Nono and others.
In 2026, the Zafraan Ensemble will celebrate its multi-layered artistic vision with a representative cross-section of its instrumental music. With a moderated concert series, a festival and a multimedia poetic portrait, which will be published as a new publication with recordings in autumn 2026, we can enter the many different worlds of their music. A special highlight will be the performance of ‘HYPER-DUB’ together with Dirk von Lowtzow (frontman of the band Tocotronic) and his wonderful lyrics.

At the Sendesaal Bremen, the Zafraan Ensemble, conducted by Miguel Pérez Iñesta and in the presence of the composer, will perform the following works:
