Today begins the Beijing International Composition Workshop 2013, to which Zafraan was invited as Ensemble in Residence this year.
As part of the workshop, young composers from all over the world have the opportunity to work with renowned composers and lecturers such as Prof. Zhou Long, Prof. Dieter Mack, Prof. Luca Francesconi, Prof. Chen Xiaoyong, Prof. Manuel Nawri, Prof. Xu Shuya, Prof . Jia Guoping and Prof. Guo Wenjing to work together.
During the 10-day program, various formats such as individual lessons, composition seminars, lectures, conducting lessons, ensemble rehearsals and sufficient time for the mutual exchange of ideas are offered. Two final concerts are also planned, in which some of the works they worked together will be presented.
Another focus of this year’s workshop is Chinese musical culture, with various lectures and discussion events focusing in particular on traditional Chinese instruments and folk music as well as contemporary trends related to them.
