Always driven by a close connection with her audience, Iris ter Schiphorst combines political awareness with poetic power, sensual sonority and formal radicalism. After training as a classical pianist, she soon strayed from the traditional path, playing electric bass in punk, new wave and funk bands, and found her way into contemporary music through her own lyrics and the influence of composers such as Dieter Schnebel and Luigi Nono.
In 2026, the Zafraan Ensemble will celebrate Iris ter Schiphorst’s multifaceted artistic vision with EDEN CINEMA, presenting a representative cross-section of her instrumental music.

With three concerts, a multimedia-poetic portrait to be published as a new book featuring recordings, discussion panels, and silent films for which Iris ter Schiphorst has written music, we can step into the many different worlds of her music. A particular highlight is the performance of “HYPER-DUB” together with Dirk von Lowtzow (frontman of the band Tocotronic) and his wonderful text.
