From June 6th to 10th, 2019, the Zafraan Ensemble will be guests at the Forum Wallis in Switzerland and, in addition to working with the Composer's Academy, will be giving several concerts at Leuk Castle.
The Forum Wallis is a Swiss festival for new music and takes place annually at Pentecost at Leuk Castle on the German-French language border in the middle of the Valais Alps. In 2019, in addition to an international ensemble academy, which will be expanded for the first time to include an international academy for composition students under the direction of Erik Oña, there will once again be interdisciplinary, chamber music and experimental formats, sound walks, art exhibitions and new electronic music – the latter in connection with the competition for acousmatic music ‘Ars Electronica Forum Wallis’, which will be held in an expanded form for the 5th time in 2019.
In total, around 50 contemporary works by composers from 25 countries can be heard, as well as a large number of the most important European and local ensembles and soloists.
They will all be there from the 6th to the 10th. June 2019 will be a guest in the medieval town of Leuk and will provide an exciting insight into the diverse work of the musical avant-garde. The repertoire of the Forum Wallis Composer’s Academy re-contextualizes the new music ensemble using specific commissioned works and improvisation concepts. Manuel Mengis, Hanspeter Pfammatter, UMS ‘n JIP and the Zafraan Ensemble are taking part in the concerts in Leuk.
