Like Tears in Rain - Interactive performance by Yoav Pasovsky and the Zafraan Ensemble on February 26th, 2022 in the UFO of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein at 11 a.m.
In Like Tears in Rain, the audience plays the crucial role – there is a mixing console in the middle of the room that changes the musicians’ notes in real time. While the music is playing, the audience is allowed to operate the mixer.
The children approach the “mixing desk” with enthusiasm and intuitively begin to control the live score by the instrumentalists of the Zafraan Ensemble. For example, it is possible
to switch individual musicians on and off, to play with the dynamics, tempo or range of notes or pitch ranges. The participants can immediately start a high-quality, musically creative process without any prior theoretical knowledge or instrumental skills and receive direct feedback on their own ideas of musical form and sound design. The participants unconsciously understand the challenges that arise when improvising or composing and confront them with their musical-aesthetic awareness. At the same time, they get an insight into the world of contemporary art music and always receive a musically appealing result. Each performance is directed in different ways by the individual participants, creating an unrepeatable, unique spatial and sound experience.
