From February 19th to March 9th, 2016, the Zafraan Ensemble will be performing in the Opera Stabile of the Hamburg State Opera, where the joint production “Minibar” composed by Sven Daigger and Manuel Durão can be experienced.
A bar, a lot going on, a lot of people: lonely, desperate, brilliant, unstable, in need of love. Who can go with whom, who goes with whom? Are you drowning in frustration or is it taking over? And what decides that? A teacher scolds his students and the world, HE and SHE are looking for each other, the single parent has shoveled an evening off. The old woman used to play the piano here, the barman listens and doesn’t listen, someone sells hearing aids and has a messianic idea. When you get hit on, the firewall wouldn’t work. And if you don’t understand each other, the router is down. Who knows who? Is the one I’m chatting with the one sitting next to me? Is the revolution coming tonight? 15 young musical theater professionals from the fields of directing, composition, stage and costume design, dramaturgy, conducting and cultural management come together to develop and tell an opera together. Änne-Marthe Kühn summarized the ideas in a libretto. Sven Daigger composed a “sitcom opera in 14 episodes” and Manuel Durão a “musical farce”.
