The series “Music for Hotel Bars” will be guesting at the Lang Bar of the Waldorf Astoria Berlin on December 18, 2018, this time with the Zafraan Ensemble and Martin Hiendl aka Laure Leander.
Between June 2018 and February 2019, the concert series “Music for Hotel Bars” commissioned the composers Mark Barden, Anna Jandt, Neo Hülcker, Martin Hiendl, Leo Hofmann and Genoël von Lilienstern to write music for a hotel bar in Berlin. The challenge for composers who come from the field of new music is to artistically take on the profession of – to put it provocatively – functional music. The public is invited to join the hotel guests for an evening of drinks, conversations and music composed specifically for each bar. The evenings are free of charge and barrier-free; every hotel bar offers an affordable signature drink.
Stylish 1920s interiors, a digital quarter piano and lots of good drinks impress in the Lang Bar of the Waldorf Astoria Berlin. The glass semicircle of the bar opens up a view of the Memorial Church. Already in still / arriving , Martin Hiendl aka Laure Leander let pianists enter into a dialogue with themselves through playback. The interdisciplinary composer and performer also applies this principle for larger ensembles. He writes evening and night-filling music for the Zafraan Ensemble.
