In exchange with the Ensemble Court-Circuit from Paris, the Zafraan Ensemble is developing and presenting a program in the second part of its Rencontres that also reflects mutual inspiration and influence from a philosophical and compositional perspective. The Zafraan Ensemble, which is organized from the instrumentalists – without a permanent conductor or associated composer – meets at Court-Circuit an ensemble that was explicitly founded by Philippe Hurel “par un compositeur pour des compositeurs”. The joint development of the selected works under the direction of Pierre-André Valade, the founding conductor of Court-Circuit, promises to be an exciting, fruitful process for both sides – in addition to personal and professional exchange.
Philippe Hurel’s work figures libres was an early milestone in the development of the Zafraan Ensemble. It is therefore particularly exciting for the members to be able to work with him on an ensemble level. The jointly designed program includes the composers Sarah Nemtsov and Johannes Boris Borowski, who are not yet in Court-Circuit’s repertoire but are regularly featured in concerts at Zafraan, as well as Christophe Bertrand and Hugues Dufourt, with whom there were also special connections or exist. The ensembles rehearse together in Berlin, followed by a tour with three concerts in Berlin (Music Brewery), Hamburg (Resonanzraum) and Paris (Salle Cortot).
A production by the Zafraan Ensemble in cooperation with Court-Circuit. Supported by the Music Fund, the Initiative Neue Musik Berlin and Impuls Neue Musik.
