On September 8th at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. you can immerse yourself in the legendary club scene of the Berlin 1990s at Watergate Berlin!

In a series of ten chamber concerts, the Zafraan Ensemble tells the musical history of Berlin from the 1910s to today. Each of the concert evenings represents a decade, in which a work that premiered in Berlin during that decade forms the programmatic trigger.
Actually, one cannot talk about new music in Berlin in the 1990s without at least mentioning what made this city the center of the musical world back then: the club culture. Naturally, the acoustic sound world has little or nothing to do with the electronic dance world – attempts to combine the two have never been crowned with what could perhaps be described as ‘credibility’. So, introduced by Rihm and his bass-heavy instrumentation, via his student Rebecca Saunders and via Joseph Schwantner, we break down the bass and drum elements into their individual positions. With works by Wolfgang Rihm, Rebecca Saunders, Autechre/Daniel Eichholz, Farzia Fallah, Mauricio Kagel and Joseph Schwantner.
The concert takes place twice on the same evening at the Watergate – at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.
