Performances: June 10th, 11th and 12th, 2022, 8:00 p.m., doors open at 7:30 p.m. Westhafen Berlin
Since Berlin’s other ports have long since been converted to other uses, the Westhafen site is just waiting to be discovered by the public. On three evenings, the area of harbor basins I and II can be wandered through and experienced in a new way.
In various spatial arrangements, the musicians from eight renowned ensembles from Berlin musically explore the two harbor basins, explore distances and come into contact with architecture, machines and water. In three parts, visitors experience the port area in operation as a culturally lively place. Sound landscapes are created that the audience wanders through freely until they gather at the end for the big tutti.
Berlin Westhafen – Umschlagplatz Klang is a new type of collaboration between various Berlin actors. For the first time, the ensembles KNM Berlin, Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop, Ensemble LUX:NM, Ensemble Mosaik, Sonar Quartett, ZAFRAAN Ensemble, Ensemble Adapter, Ensemble Apparat and guests are joining forces for a site-specific composition of this scale, combining artistic forces that will provide a new impetus not only for Berlin’s independent scene but also for Berlin’s urban space.
The project also marks the first cooperation between Berlin’s independent music scene and BEHALA, the Berliner Hafen- und Lagerhausgesellschaft mbH. As the operator of the ports in Berlin-Mitte, Spandau and Neukölln, which have existed since the beginning of the 20th century, BEHALA is now the operator of one of the largest inland ports in Germany and an integral part of Berlin’s trade flows. The old and new of the city meet here and invite you to change your perspective on the urban space as a living, economic and cultural area in the open air.
