New music 1913 and today: On December 9, 2013, the Zafraan Ensemble will present a large program at the Konzerthaus Berlin with three premieres - once by Lula Romero and twice by Alban Berg (arr. Simon) - as well as works by Evan Gardner and Arnold Schönberg (arr. Dünser).
As part of this concert, both Alban Berg’s Four Clarinet Pieces op. 5 and his Passacaglia from the symphony fragment from 1913 will be premiered in new orchestrations for ensemble by Klaus Simon. The soloist of the clarinet pieces is Miguel Pérez Iñesta, the direction is the responsibility of the arranger and conductor Klaus Simon. The third premiere is a commission from the Spanish composer Lula Romero, who lives in Berlin. In addition, Arnold Schönberg’s Three Piano Pieces op. 11 will be heard in the orchestration for ensemble by Richard Dünser as a German premiere and the highly topical composition Sonic Voyeur II by Evan Gardner, also based in Berlin, whose work was most recently performed in the “New Scenes” at the Deutsche Oper Berlin was to experience.
The Zafraan Ensemble plays in this concert with its entire 10-member line-up (flute, clarinet, saxophone, harp, percussion, piano, violin, viola, cello, double bass) and is also supplemented for some pieces by guest musicians friends (oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, horn, trumpet). In addition to Miguel Pérez Iñesta, the ensemble will also feature Clemens Hund-Göschel as a soloist on the piano, while Klaus Simon will conduct the works of the Second Viennese School.
