The IMPULS festival will be in Berlin on November 19, 2017 and invites you to the Musikbrauerei together with the Zafraan Ensemble. Also taking part are Salome Kammer, Manuel Nawri, the Neue Vocalsolisten and the Quatuor Tana with new works by Johannes Schöllhorn, Samir Odeh-Tamimi, Raphaël Cendo, Elena Mendoza, Annette Mengel and Nicolai Worsaae.
The two parts designed by Salome Kammer and the Zafraan Ensemble (start: 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.) span a wide range from the solo to the complete ensemble sound. The framework is provided by two works by Samir Odeh-Tamimi, a composer whose music is a special call to listening. His works evoke intense communication with their direct access to the origins of music – the sung language and archaic rhythm. Following this, the other works of the evening address the search for a common language and the appropriation of what was previously unknown: sometimes poetic-philosophical, as in the premiere of Annette Mengel’s Umnachtungen and Elena Mendoza’s pieces, sometimes spatially, as with Sarah Nemtsov or in graffiti style by Nicolai Worsaae and humorous by Györgi Kurtág. One can also be particularly excited about the premiere of the complete cycle of sérigraphies by Johannes Schöllhorn: five late piano pieces by Gabriel Fauré are examined in a new compositional way and cast the simultaneous beauty and strangeness in a completely new form.
In the middle part (start: 5:30 p.m.) there is the German premiere of the seventy-minute work Delocazione for string quartet and vocal quartet by Raphaël Cendo, based on texts by Claude Royet-Journoud, Georges Didi-Huberman, Rainer-Maria Rilke, Georges Bataille for the French-Belgian Quatuor Tana and the Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart. After the celebrated premiere at the Festival Musica in Strasbourg in October, this work, co-commissioned by IMPULS, can now be experienced in Germany for the first time.
Between the parts, the audience is invited to refresh themselves in the spectacular rooms of the music brewery, exchange ideas and also take part in the conversation by festival director Hans Rotman (start: 7 p.m.) with Johannes Schöllhorn, Annette Mengel, Samir Odeh-Tamimi and other artists to participate in the evening.
