You could have filled the whole ten concerts with only Paul Dessau, his pupils and their pupils and still not be complete. Or you could have spent ten evenings talking only about Paul Dessau and still be in the middle of life. That’s why there is only a dramaturgically justifiable selection, consisting of the teacher, the pupil, the last pupil and a pupil of the pupil. And electronic music should be there, too, after all. And more time would also be nice. Then we could listen late in the evening to the wondrous record Nachts in schwarzer Seilbahn nach Waldpotsdam (Night in a Black Cable Car to Waldpotsdam), which the pupil-student-student (Dessau-Zechlin-Herchet) Stephan Winkler recorded with Max Goldt. But we’ll probably do it anyway, because of the ramifications.
